Dartington Hall Wedding Venue, Devon
The gorgeous Dartington Hall in Totnes was Calvin & Lidia's choice of wedding venue, a popular spot for people to walk around the grounds & have lunch in the restaurant or do a spot of kayaking and fly-fishing. A fantastic wedding venue, the 14th century Dartington Hall is a classic, traditional South Hams wedding venue that is the largest medieval house in the South West & has 1200 acres of grounds.
The ceremony's setting was akin an English cottage garden; purple wisteria clinging to the wooden trellis overhead the couple in full bloom, their friends & family arranged in a horseshoe in front of the medieval Dartington Hall, a close friend playing some accompanying music to the guests arriving.
2 Readings were done, both my the groom's cousin & his younger brother, followed by the exchanging of vows during the service & finally some photos of friends and family within the 14th grounds of the grand estate.
Dittisham village, Devon- wedding reception
For the wedding reception, everyone travelled down to the picturesque riverside village of Dittisham in the South Hams, Devon. Calvin's uncle had very kindly let the wedding party have his beautiful countryside home, complete with a large garden where a marque would later welcome guests. A seemly inexhaustible conveyor of food greeted all of us at the reception venue, including inventive takes on 'toad in the hole' and traditional fish & chips, keeping the guests ticking over until dinnertime, the Sun still up high, where a roast dinner was served up in the garden!
The speeches given by Calvin & a couple of other guests were both heartfelt & spontaneous, no-one reading from a hastily written piece of text, summing up the mood the day, being intimate & uncontrived. Dancing ensued and the whiskey flowed, overlooking the picturesque River Dart in the final throws of dusk. Upon leaving the venue, I felt privileged to be counted among the guests present. A truly special wedding.
