When looking for a great wedding venue, it can be a thorny challenge to match your dreams with your hard currency. These days we all want to mark our special occasion in style, but wedding costs can stack up fast and most couples cannot afford a castle. As an affordable wedding photographer who aims to offer quality for less, I’m well aware that many couples are anxious about costs. So how do you find the right setting when wedding planning on a budget?
The good news is that many hotels and businesses now recognise the reality of wedding budgets. They want your business and can offer some surprisingly affordable packages that don’t amount to a second rate event. In other words, it’s not so much a case of how to have a cheap wedding, but how to organize a wedding fit for a princess without waking up as a pauper. With that aim in mind, here are five brilliantly affordable Devon wedding venues where you can cut costs without cutting quality:
1. Bickley Mill Inn (Nr Newton Abbot & Torquay) Who wouldn’t be charmed by a lovely old mill, complete with a trickling stream and idyllic surroundings? Take a look at the rave reviews this venue gets for its cracking food, service and accommodation and you might assume Bickley Mill held a high price tag. Inclusive wedding packages from less than £3000 tell a different story! Find out more at www.bickleymill.co.uk
2.Double Locks Inn (Exeter) Picture the scene; a classic English Inn on a rustic canal. Add Britain’s oldest locks, swans and a beer garden the size of Jersey and you might expect reception costs to run amok quicker than your Uncle Dave at a wedding buffet. Until you look at the figures and see that their spacious marquee costs an amazing value £300 to hire per day! Obviously you will need to budget for food and drink, but the Double Locks won’t sting you here either; from mediterannean style buffet treats to an epic hogroast, you could be looking at as little as £10 a head. Is this the best value wedding venue in Devon?!! Unsurprisingly, they tend to be popular, so do enquire early at www.doublelocks.com
3. Dartmoor Lodge (Ashburton) Fancy holding your wedding in a friendly, rustic setting right on the edge of Dartmoor National Park? You can pay an arm and a leg for some of the higher end hotels in this area. But search around and there are much better deals, with the same epic scenery to create some great pictures and memories. Dartmoor Lodge is a great option here, with inclusive packages starting from just £3200 for venue use and food for up to 50. However, get hitched in the winter here and the price drops by over £1000. See www.dartmoorlodge.co.uk for further details.
4. Saunton Sands (Braunton, North Devon) Overlooking glorious sandy beaches and with more than a hint of coastal chic, you might quickly guess that this was a serious luxury wedding venue. And you’d be correct until you looked at their special reception packages. Winter and midweek weddings can be booked for around the £3000 mark including food, making this a winner in terms of affordable quality. Find out more at: http://www.sauntonsands.co.uk
5. Lakeview Manor (Honiton)
Another one of those good value Devon wedding venues where your jaw might drop at the prices for the right reasons. Glorious gardens and lakes make this place a world apart for any special occasion. From £2875- £3475 you get a pretty inclusive package (food and bubbly for 50 and a wedding planner, with the option to add extra evening guests at £11.50 a head). Find more details on their special wedding offers at www.lakeviewmanor.co.uk
