After negotiating a few country lanes just past Bodmin and then Padstow, I emerged at YHA Treyarnon Bay (click 'an alternative wedding venue' to read more) to overlook the beautiful north coast of Cornwall, where Jill, Simon & most of the wedding party was staying for the weekend.
After the morning's sprucing up & a couple of beers to kick start the day's proceedings, everyone met up at the historic seaside village of Padstow, a popular West Country wedding destination. The wedding ceremony was held at the Metropole Hotel, a 4-star luxury
hotel overlooking Padstow Harbour, where the Drawing Room was decorated with.....dalmatian helium balloons (Jill couldn't bring her beloved hounds with her, so the family took it upon themselves to come up with something).
Local Cornish beer awaited us after the ceremony, with some photos and a quick couple of drinks at the hotel's bar '@ The Met”, before everyone piled into the the 'Shipwrights Inn', a traditional St. Austell Brewery brick pub built originally to serve the fishermen and tradespeople of the port. With a plethora of local beers on tap, a beer garden and quayside location, the place was bustling by early afternoon and even attracted the attention of a group of Penzance Pirates (a bachelor party from years back who enjoyed their night out so much they have now made Padstow & their fetching outfits an annual fixture). Suffice to say that both parties intermingled to create this quirky montage of floating dalmatians, pirates, beautiful patterned wedding dresses & smiling, but bewildered, bystanders.
Naturally enough, Cornish pasties were a feature of the afternoon's running, fortifying the wedding troupe for all the toasting that was to take place back at the youth hostel (YHA Treyarnon Bay) which Jill & Simon had exclusively hired. With a backdrop of beach & sea, the alcohol flowed, tears were shed and speeches hilarious, culminating in a confetti-ridded wedding party photograph.
From that point, ties were loosened, high heels were kicked off and everyone sat down to the tasty wedding buffet provided by the YHA, followed by basking outside in the late evening sunshine, Jill & Simon dancing their 'first dance' with quite a panorama.
